Hello Reader,
Welcome to August
I can’t believe it. It’s August already. July is in the past and what a tumultuous month it was. For
us it began with a hail storm on July 1 st which wiped out many of our fields and damaged almost
everything else including our house, our buildings and our trees. But it did put an end to the
drought. We have had several rains since then, providing moisture to help the crops that are
left to grow. And giving us some hope that our water reserves will be renewed.
July also brought us wonderful surprises and very special family time. The first surprise was a
visit from one of our exchange students from Switzerland from 34 years ago. Stephan and his
wife Luzia had conspired with our son and daughter-in-law to completely surprise us with an
afternoon of visiting, reminiscing and visiting our farm where he had spent many days and had
many adventures with us all those years ago. It was such a special day.
We also had a mini reunion with the teachers and staff of Central High that taught and worked
with me prior to my retirement 26 years ago. There were 15 people who came to our farm that
day and it was another wonderful day. So good to see all of them again and get to catch up on
our lives.
And finally, last weekend Stan and I hosted a family reunion of my Mom’s father’s side of the
family. I had cousins come from Toronto, Calgary and Canmore and family members from
Sherwood Park, Edmonton and Killam. We spent 3 days reconnecting, touring and playing
together. And eating. Oh my gosh we ate a lot.
Enough of what is past. August is looking like a quieter month. We are offering individual
classes for anyone interested but no formal class schedule. If you are interested in learning a
particular technique or pattern, please let us know. We will be glad to help. Also if you have
fabric that you have purchased but don’t know what to do with it, let us help you with ideas.
Bags of Love days continue in August and people have been meeting as often as every Tuesday.
Please feel free to join us. We appreciate your help and the children we are building quilts for,
need us. You do not have to be a quilter to contribute. We need people to cut kits, press fabric,
layer quilts etc. It is a fun and social day.
Panels and kits are no longer 75% off but don't fret because select items are still on sale. Come check our on sale table in store now! Items on sale include quilting books, patterns, sewing starter kits, yarn and more.
With August comes a new mystery quilt clue, enjoy!

More storms predicted for this evening. Oh well. It is...
